Frequently asked questions.

Surf Lesson FAQs

Everything you need to know before your first session with Venice Beach Surf Club.

1. Do I need any surfing experience to take a lesson? No experience needed. Our lessons are beginner-friendly, and most students are standing up on their very first day. If you already surf, your instructor will meet you at your level and help you progress.

2. Do you provide surfboards and wetsuits? Yes. Every lesson includes a surfboard and wetsuit at no extra cost, so you don't need to bring or rent any equipment.

3. Where do we meet for the lesson? We meet on the sand at the south side of the Venice Pier in Venice Beach, Los Angeles. Your instructor will be there with the boards and wetsuits.

4. What should I bring? Just a swimsuit to wear under your wetsuit, plus a towel, sunscreen, and water. We provide the surfboard and wetsuit, so leave valuables at home or in your car.

5. Is Venice Beach a good place to learn to surf? Yes. The beach break by the Venice Pier offers consistent, manageable waves over a sandy bottom, which makes it one of the most beginner-friendly surf spots in Los Angeles. Your instructor picks the best spot each day based on conditions.

6. How do I book a lesson? Book directly on our website, or call or text us at (424) 321-8272. You can also email wave@venicebeachsurf.club. Group lessons are $75 per person, private lessons are $140, and semi-private lessons for two people are $180 per booking.
